GCE “A-levels” are the final pre-university exams taken by English students at the end of two years’ highly specialised study. For many students this is the first step towards studying Fine Art at university as well as a wide range of other art-related subjects. Studying Art at A-level is a wonderful way to develop your potential as an artist through Observational Drawing, Fine Art, Graphic Design & Illustration and Art History. At King’s you can take A-level Art by itself or as part of our full A-level programme for international students. It can also be one of your A-level subjects even if you don’t want to study Art at university. |

Intensive English with Fine Art |
![]() |
Why not learn to communicate through language and communicate through art at the same time? Intensive English with Fine Art combines classes in general English with specialist classes in Fine Art. English is taught in our reguar Intensive course to improve your use of the language in all four skills and Art tuition is given by King's School's regular Art teachers. This course is suitable for students who need to improve their English for study or employment while preparing a portfolio of work or simply developing their painting and drawing skills. You will have 15 hours per week of English classes; you will spend on average six hours per week with your Art teacher and you are expected to spend at least six hours per week working in the Art Studio on your projects. The course may be taken as an Academic Year course (from September to June) but shorter courses (minimum 12 weeks) starting at other times are also possible. |

Oxford |

Oxford is a wonderful place to study art - a city where centuries of culture are gathered together in some of the finest architecture and galleries in the world. Oxford University’s Ashmolean Museum of Art, the oldest public museum in the world, has world-class collections of drawings, paintings, prints and jewellery; Christ Church College has an outstanding collection of Old Master paintings and drawings; Modern Art Oxford is internationally famous as one of Britain’s foremost galleries for contemporary art. Art students at King’s are encouraged to make use of this wonderful environment with regular class trips for sketching and observation and the chance to draw inspiration from the beauty of Oxford. |
|
Students often need to submit a portfolio as part of their application to a university or art college. At King’s School we can help you build a portfolio which will show off your skills and abilities in the best possible way. We can design an individual programme for you, including practical teaching and studio time and combined with English or academic studies as necessary. |

The Studio |
Students at King’s School can engage in Art in many different ways: pre-university courses in Art & Design for serious Art students; special interest courses in painting for English language students; relaxed evening classes in life drawing. The Art Studio at King’s School is a light, spacious, dedicated room, specially equipped for teaching painting, drawing and modelling. Lessons take place here and students come here to work on projects in their own time. The Studio is a place where you can meet other students after classes to share and develop artistic ideas, to do your coursework, to learn new skills.
