Taking the IELTS in Oxford
All IELTS tests in Oxford are administered by King’s School Oxford, the accredited British Council testing centre for Oxford.
The school office is open daily from 9.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday. The test is in two parts: the main exam (listening,
reading and writing) and the speaking test which is taken separately.
The Main Exam
This is taken on Saturday morning. It is administered by King’s School at the Oxford University Examinations School,
Ewert House, Summertown, Oxford from 0900 to approximately 1330.
The Speaking Test
This is taken one or two days before the main exam at King’s School, Temple Road, Oxford, either on Thursday (1600-
2000) or Friday (1330-1800). You will be told the exact time of your speaking test by letter about ten days in advance.
Speaking Tests at other times
A limited number of “Non Standard” Speaking Test appointments are available on the afternoon of the main exam
(Saturday) or during the following week, mainly for the convenience of candidates travelling from outside the Oxford area.
If you wish to request one of these you must do so BEFORE you submit your IELTS application form.
See www.kingsoxford.co.uk/ielts for more information and a secure online request form.
Cancelling or postponing your test
If you cannot take the test for medical reasons and can show a full medical certificate, you will be offered the next available
test without extra charge. If you wish to cancel or postpone for any other reason, you must give at least five weeks’ notice.
An administrative charge will be made (see below). If you cancel or postpone later than this, you will forfeit the whole test
fee. All cancellations and postponements must be made in writing (by post, fax or email).
Your identity document (ID)
The rules on proof of identity are very strict. If you come to the test without the correct ID, you will not be allowed to take
the test and you will lose your test fee.
• For all candidates except EU citizens, your ID must be your current passport. (European Union citizens may use their
national identity card if they prefer.) Other kinds of ID will not be accepted.
• You must make a photocopy of your ID and attach it to your application form. (Copy the page with the photograph.)
• You must also write the number of the ID on your application form. This is the document you must now bring to the test.
• You must bring this exact ID with you to all parts of the test. If you bring a different ID, it will not be accepted.
• You must bring the original. Photocopies will not be accepted.
If your ID changes before the test (e.g. you have a new passport), you must contact the IELTS office at King’s School
immediately. If your passport is at the Home Office, you must get it back before you come to take the test. If you have any
doubts about your ID, please contact the IELTS office at King’s School.
