We're all learners, one way or another. This doesn't stop just because we're also teachers.
It's easy to say this but it's harder to live by it. As teachers we try to open our students to new ideas and skills but it can be difficult to keep ourselves open to new ideas or to share our ideas with others. At King's we try to do this by offering opportunities for English teachers from other countries to come into our school so they can learn from us and so we can learn from them.
We offer programmes for groups of teachers and for individuals. Each programme is designed specifically for you and in consultation with you, so that we don't promise you anything you don't need and you don't waste any of your time.
It's likely to have several different elements:
It might be two or three weeks long. You might spend three to four hours per day in class, in meetings, observing lessons, collecting materials and so on. But everyone's programme is individually designed.
Whatever your programme, this is likely to be at the heart of it. It means firstly that you join one of our general English classes with daily lessons to refresh your knowledge of grammar and vocabulary. Secondly it means that you have individual meetings with your class teacher where you look at these lessons from a different perspective: you discuss why things were taught in particular ways and how, in your teaching (or learning) situation, it might be done differently.
You'll be able to use the resources of the school for research or projects of your own or we can suggest projects for you: for example, case studies with students from other countries; projects to gather teaching or cultural materials to take home with you; a diary study to reflect on your own learning.
The point is we'll design a programme just for you. It can be very intensive or you can have more time for sightseeing; the emphasis can be on teaching or you can focus on your own English - tell us about yourself and we'll suggest how to get the most from your time in our school.
For a group of teachers we'll design a course to meet your specific needs or the requirements of your employers. It can be at any time of year and for any period.
The course will combine elements of your choice. These might include:
As with the individual programmes, you tell us about the needs of your group, your budget and your availability and we'll work out a course proposal for you.
Yes, and yes. Many things about teaching and learning hold true across all sectors but where your needs are specific to a sector or age group, we'll address those needs very specifically in your programme.
And if it's new to us, so much the better. After all, the more you learn, the more we learn too!
We're happy to arrange accommodation for you with local host families. This is very convenient and cost-effective.
We can be very flexible about dates but please note that places on individual programmes are limited, especially during the summer months.
All participants receive an attendance certificate with a detailed description of their programme. Other documentation may be produced if you need it.
It's not possible to quote fees here as they depend on the individual design of each programme. However, while we don't run them at a loss, the intention is that these programmes should be affordable.
Programmes may be eligible for funding under schemes such as Comenius. Check with us for details.
Please get in touch with us to discuss the programme that interests you.
